About Comunicancer

Comunicancer is a global strategic communication research project focused on the study of cancer prevention, with special attention to digital communication and young audiences.

Under the Comunicancer framework, R&D&I projects are being developed, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the State Research Agency, in the field of health communication, with the aim of optimising communication by specialists in skin cancer prevention and helping to slow the spread of this disease through more effective campaigns tailored to the needs of the public.

The research team is made up of leading researchers in the fields of Health Sciences and Social Sciences, affiliated with national and international universities and institutions, who represent a range of medical and communication specialities. The team also combines profiles at different stages of their research careers, promoting a balanced dynamic between consolidated experience and innovation.

Purpose

Skin cancer is a growing global epidemic with an increasing impact on healthcare systems. It is emerging as a public health threat in Spain in the coming years, especially among the university population, one of the groups most at risk due to persistent risky behaviour and insufficient awareness of the danger.

Comunicancer was created with the aim of researching communication on the prevention of skin cancer caused by sun exposure in order to curb the cancer epidemic, taking a comprehensive approach that combines two main lines of work:

Monitoring and evaluation of strategic communication on sun protection against skin cancer in Spain.

Monitoring the knowledge, attitudes and habits of young Spanish university students regarding sun protection.
